Driver Transition Services,
Temp-to-Hire CDL Staffing

Try a CDL driver on your team first. Hire them when you’re sure.

Benefits of Temp-to-Hire Truck Drivers

TQM Logistics’ driver transition services give your company a low-risk way to evaluate CDL drivers before bringing them onto your payroll. Through our temp-to-hire truck driver program, a qualified driver works for your fleet under TQM’s supplemental driver program, and after a period you set in advance, that driver can become your employee.

Lower hiring risk

Confirm a driver is the right match before you commit to a full-time hire.

Faster ramp-up

Get a seat filled and wheels turning while you evaluate, rather than waiting through a long search.

Employer risk handled

TQM assumes workers’ compensation, unemployment compensation, negligent hiring and wrongful discharge risk during the transition.

DOT compliance covered

TQM maintains complete driver qualification files for every driver, available on request.

A better fit for both sides

Drivers and companies get a real preview of the working relationship.

What Are Driver Transition Services?

Hiring a truck driver is a big commitment. A resume and a road test only tell you so much, and a bad hire costs time, money and momentum. Driver transition services remove that guesswork. Instead of hiring blind, you put a qualified driver to work in your operation and see how they handle your equipment, your customers and your schedule before making the decision permanent.

It works for drivers too. They get to experience your company from the inside, so the move to direct hire is a choice both sides make with confidence.

How Our CDL Driver Transition Program Works

  1. Tell us what you need. Share your equipment, routes, schedule, license class, endorsements and any special requirements
  2. We recruit and qualify. TQM handles recruiting, applicant selection and DOT qualification, using top job boards and our own driver network.
  3. The driver starts on assignment. Your driver works your freight as a TQM employee and is dispatched in house by our team.
  4. You evaluate on the job. Watch performance, safety habits and fit with your crew over the period we agree on up front.
  5. Convert to direct hire. When the period ends, the driver can become your employee, with terms settled from the start.

Why Companies Outsource Driver Dispatch

Managing drivers is a full-time job on top of your real job. Dispatching, rescheduling, handling call-outs and answering questions at all hours pulls your team away from running the business. With a staffing partner that handles dispatch, you stop worrying about juggling temp drivers and keep your attention on day-to-day operations.

Driver schedules also have to respect federal hours-of-service limits, and our dispatchers plan around them. You can read the rules on the FMCSA’s hours-of-service page.

Who Uses Driver Transition Services?

Trucking companies, private fleets and carriers use our CDL driver transition program when they want to employ their own drivers but would benefit from a trial period first. It is especially useful when you are growing, replacing a driver on short notice, or hiring for a role where fit matters as much as credentials.

If you would rather have TQM recruit and qualify drivers you employ from day one, see our CDL driver recruiting services. If you only need temporary coverage for vacations, seasonal peaks or last-minute freight, our supplemental driver staffing is the right fit.
